ROLE
Lead UX Designer and Researcher
Revit Personal Accelerator
A tool designed to optimize performance when working on Cloud Worksharing Revit projects.
The Challenge
Revit users working on large, complex cloud-based models depend on efficient synchronization to collaborate effectively. However, lengthy model-loading and synchronization times can interrupt workflows, reduce productivity, and create frustration.
Because much of this process happens behind the scenes, users may lack visibility into its operation, performance, and storage requirements.
Exploration
Users were not able to control where projects were caching on their personal devices.
Long wait times interrupted productivity and collaborative workflows.
Background processes made it difficult to understand acceleration activity.
Unclear system status created uncertainty around performance and reliability.
Research Overview
Product Feedback Forums
User Needs Surveys
User Interviews
Usability Testing and Refinement
Product feedback forums highlighted that project caching was a significant user problem for cloud workshared products.
A survey was sent to users to highlight specific needs and experiences that could solve this problem for most users.
User interviews confirmed that the UX and project requirements resonated with users workflows.
A solution was tested with users and refined to meet the end goal.

The Solution

3
Storage Location
Users were able to view where their projects were caching and update the cache location.
Based off of feedback during usability testing, a copy control was added next to the Cache Location so that users could quickly access the location in their finder.
2
Setting Limits
Users were able to view and edit current storage limits, as well as accessing information surrounding current storage usage.
1
Home Screen Transparency
Without opening the tool users could view how much free storage they currently had.
Iconography updates based off of whether a user has adequate free space, is nearing a storage limit, or if storage is full.
